Top Kid-Friendly Things To Do In Jamaica

A Trip To Jamaica Filled With Fun For The Whole Family

As a kid, I used to travel to Jamaica quite frequently. I went there nearly every year until I was about six. When I was a bit older, I even cruised there. My parents loved traveling to the island because of the amount of kid-friendly things to do in Jamaica. As a small child, I would splash around in the water and play in the sand, and as I got older, we would hike up Dunn's River Falls and explore the rest of the island as a family. I always loved traveling to Jamaica because there were so many family-friendly attractions to choose from.

The island is filled with adventurous activities as well as more laid-back options if you're traveling with really small children — whether you want to splash around in the crystal clear sea or peer over the treetops in the mountains or even head to a market to bring home some souvenirs. The options are endless when it comes to picking out kid-friendly things to do in Jamaica. Read on to find out why it's a destination that's fun for the whole family!

1. Relax At Frenchman's Cove

If you're interested in spending the day soaking up the sun and splashing around in the water, you must head to Frenchman's Cove. Imagine soft, golden sand that you can sink your toes into while your kids build themselves a sand castle. Relax under the shade of the trees while sipping on a cocktail, or grab a bite to eat at the beach bar and grill. A day pass will set you back $15 per person age 12 years and older or $8 for anyone under the age of 12. For children under 2, there's no charge.

2. Explore The Blue Mountains

When you visit the Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park, you can choose from a number of family-friendly activities to participate in. While most people would assume that you'd need to be an avid hiker to visit this national park, that's not the case. There are some amazing hikes, but there are also a number of nature walks that are suitable for children. Spend the day bird watching and picnicking with your family before joining an educational tour so your kids can learn more about the park.

3. Gain Some Speed At Kool Runnings

When you're planning your Jamaica vacation, you have to make sure you add Kool Runnings to your itinerary. As one of the most kid-friendly attractions in Jamaica, this place has it all. Think: go-karting, paintball, towering water slides, tubing and so many more attractions for kids. It's the largest water park in Jamaica and sure to get your adrenaline pumping.

4. Climb To The Top Of Dunn's River Falls

I used to love climbing up Dunn's River Falls. I remember the whole family holding hands in a chain and us climbing through the cascading waterfalls. It was always so much fun and something we did year after year. The unique experience is a can't-miss for the entire family. In fact, it's probably one of the most beautiful places in all of Jamaica. So, if you're up for a little bit of adventure, pack some water shoes and get ready for a fun day out with the family.

5. Reach New Heights At Mystic Mountain

Mystic Mountain is one of the most kid-friendly places in Jamaica. Hop on the Sky Explorer Chairlift that will carry you 700 feet above sea level. Soar through the jungle tree tops and look down at the coastline from high up. Once you reach the top of the mountain, that's where the fun truly begins. Your kids will be able to spend the day bobsledding, riding roller coasters and climbing rope courses. If you or your kids need to catch your breath, you can always hang out in the infinity pool.

6. Snorkel At Doctor Cave's Beach

If you're looking for a bit of fun in the sun, you can head to Doctor Cave's Beach. Admission is $6 for adults 12 years and older and $3 for children under 12. You'll have access to changing rooms, showers and bathrooms. Rent your family a few beach chairs and umbrellas and enjoy a day in the sun. Make sure you bring your snorkeling gear as there are stunning coral reefs brimming with a wide variety of marine life for you to check out.

7. Raft Down Martha Brae River

Head to Falmouth, Jamaica, where you'll embark on your rafting adventure from Rafter's Village. Before you set off, enjoy a picnic with your family or a quick dip in the pool. Once you're ready, you'll board a 30-foot-long bamboo raft and weave your way through the river for an hour. Learn about Martha Brae from your captain or hop into the river for a fun swim. It's a great activity for the whole family.

8. Souvenir Shop At The Old Fort Craft Market

Before you depart Jamaica, you need to pick up some souvenirs. The Old Fort Montego is home to a beautiful souvenir and craft market. The market showcases local artwork, and you can find some pretty amazing things to bring back home with you. Choose from jerk seasonings, coconut oil, textiles, wood carvings and everything in between. My family once bought a hand-carved giraffe that at the time was taller than me. I'll never forget waiting for it to come off the plane when we landed back in New York. My mom still has it, and every time I look at it I'm reminded of Jamaica and our wonderful family vacations that we had there.
Your kids will have so much fun on a Jamaica cruise.
